A Wish List of Features to get from the Community

Aside from personal opinion and political discussion about Compiere fork to Adempiere, I have been thinking about the features that I would like to see this vibrant OSS community concentrating in the future, based on a perceived value of enhancements to have:

1. Further stream line development of Sponsored functionality.

I really like the way the Adempiere Community has handled the development of sponsored requests, and would like to see these efforts propagate and stream line in the future for a larger number of sponsored features yet to come.

2. Localization of Product by Country/Region

This is an immediate and tangible need that should be in the hands of the community to be taken care of, I think a localization commitee must be appointed per country, to oversee these efforts, I have found an excellent localization example is Jikibloom Project in Italy, the community should then take this as a role model and replicate it for other countries as well.

3. Community Developed Migration & Customization Tools

I am sure we all like to see a migration tool developed by the community and free to use, I have always read that this is possible to develop by someone expert in database management, maybe this tool wouldn't be as pro as Compiere's but could be good enough for community prototyping and to migrate small footprint installations.

4. Community Supported Postgres Version of OSS,ERP

This too, is something I am sure we would all enjoy to use and keep a 100% community supported stack.

5. Solved Bug Fixes and enhancements, contributed back to Compiere

This has been a great accomplishment from Adempiere community as well and I am sure in the past the INC has been slow to respond to community contributions and fixes, but I can only say my personal experience has been postive in my end, of course I can only speak for myself here.

6. Last but not least, lets have 1) through 5) be compatible between future Compiere/Adempiere versions

It might sound a little weird to think about this..but hey what the heck this is a wish list, isn't it? Oh., and by the way I am also sure that Compiere, Inc. will gladly support its extended community in order to have these improvements performed, as we will all benefit too!!...and by all, I mean Users, Developers, Partners, INC., fans, and every one you can think of.

Finally, I will like to point again to a recent interview Matt Assay held with Mike Milinkovich, the Executive Director of Eclipse foundation, he explains there how they managed to have various real life competitors, actually collaborate over one single plataform from where they are building as a community and profiting each from their own commercially developed enhancements! Sounds familiar? With all due proportions kept, I think this too, is an excellent model to look at...please read this post here.
